Missions et objectifs de l’association
The Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) is an environmental NGO and it is the Portuguese partner of Birdlife International. Its mission is to protect birds and the incredible habitats that they depend on. We are one of the largest environmental NGOs in Portugal and we work daily to monitor the state of Portuguese birds, build nests, remove invasive species and restore habitats, advocate for better nature laws, fight environmental crime, and raise awareness to improve birds and habitats conservation and promote sustainability in Portugal (Azores and Madeira archipelagos included) and overseas (Cape Verde and São Tomé e Príncipe). In the Azores, we have been working for 20 years and conducted several projects for the protection of terrestrial birds and seabirds that include habitat restoration, predator control, rescue campaigns, promotion of sustainable development and environmental education.
